Amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the founding team identified a critical need in healthcare: optimizing PRP treatments through data. Their firsthand experience in clinical management inspired the idea of creating a data-driven platform to bring greater control and precision to regenerative therapies. That same year, PRP Data was born — the seed of what would later become BioSmartData.
With the first Minimum Viable Product (MVP) launched, the project reached its first major milestone. Facing early technical challenges, the team grew stronger by welcoming a new CTO and strategic partner. Presenting the MVP to key healthcare opinion leaders provided valuable insights and validation, while the first collaboration agreements marked the beginning of PRP Data’s real-world potential.
PRP Data officially entered the market with a version tailored to real clinical needs. Through co-creation with healthcare professionals, the platform evolved rapidly. Strategic alliances with scientific societies and participation in a pioneering multicenter study on osteoarthritis reinforced its credibility. Acceptance into the ICEX NEXT program helped design the company’s expansion roadmap, setting the stage for growth and internationalization.
A major step forward came with ENISA funding, allowing the formation of a multidisciplinary team. The company joined BIOIB, expanding its innovation network and accelerating development of algorithms for treatment prediction and personalized medicine. This year marked the official launch of BioSmartData, a comprehensive, AI-powered platform driving data-based clinical decisions and expanding into new medical specialties..

BioSmartData gained national and international recognition. The team closed a €645K Smart Money funding round and secured a €2.8M FEDER project focused on standardizing chronic pain treatments. The company became a finalist at the NTT Data Foundation eAwards and was honored as Start-Up of the Year by Banco Sabadell. Reaching the Top 10 semi-finals of Web Summit Pitch positioned BioSmartData among the most promising digital health startups in Europe.
In 2025, BioSmartData entered a new phase of expansion. The company began executing its chronic pain standardization project across multiple specialties, while driving the full-scale commercialization of its platform in Spain and abroad. New certifications under the National Security Framework (ENS) and ISO 27001 reinforced its commitment to data security. With new clinical areas and international collaborations, BioSmartData continues to scale its impact and prepare for the next investment round.
