Chronic pain affects millions of people worldwide and remains one of the most complex challenges in modern medicine. Its clinical diversity and impact on patients’ quality of life demand approaches based on reliable and comparable data. With this goal, a multidisciplinary group of pain specialists from across Spain developed a national consensus defining the Optimal Information for Chronic Pain (OICP).
The results have been published in the Journal of Pain Research (2025) under the title:
“Optimal Information for Chronic Pain (OICP): Delphi Consensus on Patient Assessment and Interventional Techniques.”
The study identifies key clinical variables essential for the evaluation and follow-up of chronic pain patients, covering areas such as medical history, treatments applied, and symptom progression. This standardization will help improve the quality and consistency of clinical data and foster the use of Real-World Evidence (RWE) to support medical decision-making.
BioSmartData’s role
BioSmartData contributed to the project through the technical deployment of the Delphi platform and the coordination of survey dissemination, ensuring data quality and consistency throughout the process. This technological collaboration was key to enabling the participation of more than 50 experts from different specialties and hospitals across Spain.
